RECENT U.S. RESEARCH INTO THE FIELD OF TYRE/ROAD NOISE
RECHERCHES AMERICAINES RECENTES DANS LE DOMAINE DU BRUIT DE CONTACT PNEUMATIQUE CHAUSSEE
From 1981 to 1986 the U.S. Federal authorities have monitored and financed an important programme of research on tyre-road noise. These studies are not the first to have been carried out in this field in the USA. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in particular had financed some interesting investigations among private laboratories around 1980. This paper is concerned with the more recent effort made by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). Details are given of the objectives, methods used and main results obtained both in pure research and in the field of concrete applications. (TRRL)
