MAINTENANCE WORK STABLE WHILE CONSTRUCTION DROPS
The results are reported of a survey which indicate that average expenditures for road construction will be down slightly in 1988, while average expenditures for pavement maintenance will remain flat. A little less than half of the survey respondents use a computer in 1988 pavement maintenance planning. The survey methodology is described, and the data is analysed. Charts are used to illustrate the data. The average spending on maintenance and construction with 1987 actual is compared with 1988 projected budget. The frequency of certain pavement distress elements are discussed, as well as the number of years, on the average, that asphalt and concrete maintenance techniques are expected to last. Certain techniques were found to be more cost-effective than others.
