OKLAHOMA AIRPORT GETS 30 IN. ASPHALT TAXIWAY

Full depth asphalt is being used to construct a 75-ft wide, 30-in deep taxiway in Oklahoma City. The hot mix asphalt base course requires 172,200 tons and the surface 26,300 tons of asphalt. The pavement is being placed in 20-ft wide, 4-in-deep lifts, and the beginning of each lift was staggered to keep pavement strength. During construction, an electrical conduit is being installed into the pavement in 3-in wide slots for future center-line taxiway lighting. Edge lights for night use will line the entire taxiway.
