TENTATIVE SWEDISH R&D PROGRAM FOR REDUCTION OF MOTOR VEHICLE EXTERIOR NOISE
FOERSLAG TIL FOU-PLAN FOER BEKAEMPNING AV EXTERNT FORDONSBULLER
This study is limited to cars and lorries. Curves for emission demand are presented and the reduction need is mentioned. Three goal levels are sketched, grouped around the noise reductions of 5, 10 and 20 DB(A) at the locus of emission. It is concluded that the possible demand for noise reductions is limited by the noise caused by tyres. For summer conditions the maximal tyre noise reduction is suggested to be 16 b(A). If vehicle speed is limited to 30 KM/H in urban areas another 7 b(A) can be gained in dry weather. In the long run the noise level for heavy vehicles is recommended as 5 b(A) above that of cars. A strategy to make these improvements possible is suggested./TRRL/
