DART TO BREAK GROUND ON RAIL NETWORK
Dallas Area Rapid Transit expects to start building the first starter lines of its 93-mi light rail network in 1988. A 6.8-mi rail segment will be built from Illinois Ave in Oak Cliff to Griffin St and a 7.7-mi segment from downtown Dallas, Texas, to Park Lane; completion: 1994. A 3.6-mi segment from the Griffin St station to Parkland Hospital is targeted to open in 1995; a 1.3-mi extension from Illinois Ave to Simpson-Stuart Rd and the 6.2-mi W Oak Cliff line will be finished in 1996; and a 3.3-mi segment of the Plano Lane from Park Lane to Texas Instruments is planned to open in 1997.
