MINIBUSES: THE WAY AHEAD

Deregulation has given a further impetus to minibuses, especially in their use as a competitive device. By the Summer of 1987 there were probably around 5000 minibuses in use on intensive local bus services, compared with about 55,000 larger OSV's. Outlines labor costs (wages and labor conditions of minibus drivers), cost- and demand aspects of mini- versus conventional buses, and conflicts with local authority policies in case of high-frequency minibus operation in a town centre bus/pedestrian street.
