HOW THE PUBLIC VIEWS INSURANCE ISSUES: 1987 AIRAC PUBLIC ATTITUDE MONITOR
The results are discussed of a survey, the public attitude monitor (PAM), which assessed the adult population's views on a number of insurance public policy issues. The survey covered such aspects as litigation and its impacts, competitive aftermarket crash parts, safety standards for minivans and pickups, insurance rating and regulation, who should pay more - men or women? shopping for insurance, and the cost of insurance. The public expressed concern about the negative effects of lawsuits, support for competition in the automobile market, safety standards, and the need to consider the driver's geographical location in determining insurance rates. State regulation of insurance was favored over that of federal regulation. "Unisex" auto insurance rating plans were also considered.
