NONASYMPTOTIC STABILITY OF UNDISTURBED MOTION OF TWO-ROTOR GYROCOMPASSES
A system of partial solutions of basic linear differential equations with periodic coefficients describing the title problem is constructed using the averaging method. Boundaries of non asymptotic stability are found for the case of a ship cruising in high geographic latitudes. For a cruising speed of 30 knots, the value of critical (in the sense of compass stability) latitude of the ship's location is determined. It is found that the stability loss in latitudes above the critical latitude is possible because of the reduction in the control moment of the gyrocompass in the vicinity of geographical poles.
