REINFORCED CONCRETE CHIMNEYS AND TOWERS
The civil engineering aspects of the design and construction of chimneys and various types of tower structures are described with particular emphasis onspecial problems associated with these structures. The principal problems arise from the thermal and corrosive effects of the flue gases. The advent of the forced draught systems brought with it the necessity of considering the dilution of noxious gases by dispersion into the more turbulent air flow at height. The text deals in detail with the effects of wind and earthquake, temperature effects, design practice elastic design, and limit-state design. Chimney linings and insulation, precast concrete chimneys, features and examples of towers, details and appurtenances are also covered. Chimney and tower construction is detailed. Detailed mathematical analyses are appended.
