INCENTIVES GIVEN PUBLIC AND CONTRACTORS
Incentives offered to contractors and the public by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for the completion of a highway construction project are described. The project which included rebuilding of 1.3 miles of WIS 35 through Hudson's business district, was the first project to use local as well as state funds as an incentive to the contractor to finish the job quickly. Public incentives took the form of street dances at the start and the end of the project. Wisconsin DOT's method called incentives and disincentives, rewards contractors with money when they finish quickly, and penalizes contractors who take too long.
