PRESENT STATUS OF MAGLEV DEVELOPMENT

The new prototype vehicle MLU002, a magnetically levitated vehicle (Maglev) is presented. The coil arrangement on this vehicle is a superconducting material and the track coils are aluminum. A drawing shows the configuration for the linear-repulsion motor. The electrical supply of the system is shown and drawings and chart provides basic parameters on the vehicle. The electrical supply is three phase, 60-cycle, and a newly devised cycle converter provides 0--34 kHz power to the system, with a 100% power factor improvement over the old system. Operating tests were to have begun at Miyazaki Test Station in April of 1987.
