100 PERCENT SOLIDS PLURAL COMPONENT URETHANE COATINGS
The paper describes the chemical and performance characterisics of 100 percent solid urethanes, and some measures that can be taken to assure the successful application of the coating. The many advantages of using aromatic polyurethanes are noted: resistance to attack by corrosive environments; excellent weathering abilities; valuable performance properties; compliance with rigorous air pollution regulations on solvent emissions; fast curing formulations; and strong adhesion. Application equipment is described. The metering of components, the effect of moisture, application rate, and economics are discussed. The chemistry of 100 percent solid urethanes makes possible a wide variety of potential coating products and properties. Although initial costs are high, their life expectancy and performance make it cost effective.
