THE STATE OF THE ART OF HEAD INJURY BIOMECHANICS. A REVIEW
How mechanical energy injures the head has been of interest for centuries. Gradually a picture has emerged that now permits an understanding of the causes of many types of head injuries. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art knowledge of the mechanical events that result in the numerous varieties of head injury that are encountered clinically. Multiple factors must be considered in order to understand how an individual mechanical input to the head results in a particular type of head injury. This paper discusses the nature, the severity and the site and direction of the mechanical input to the head. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 287637. (TRRL)
