AN ANALYSIS OF UNIT LOAD EQUIPMENT FROM THE SHIPPER'S POINT OF VIEW

The selection of unit load equipment, e.g., pallet and substitute of pallets, is an important step in the design and further development of existing materials handling systems. The purpose of the project was to study this selection from the shipper's point of view in a comprehensive way. Even the selection of packaging accessories was included in the study which was aimed at the development of a model for economic evaluation and analysis of different unit load equipment systems. The work has been focused on the most common unit load equipment in the Swedish mechanical industry, the combination of pallet and pallet collar. The model has been applied for cost-benefit calculations of a number of case studies. (Author/TRRL)
