BE SMART-RIDE MART. A TRANSIT EDUCATION PROGRAM

Inorder to further enhance the popularity of public transit to those who will probably find it to be their primary mode of travel in the coming years, the Montachusett Regional Transit Authority decided to introduce an educational program aimed at youth in grades 5 and 6 who are at the age when they are forming attitudes toward life styles and beginning to be capable of some independent travel. The program consists of a classroom presentation which covers an overview of public transit in the MART service areas, safety and courtesy rules, and transit skills, as well as a teacher handbook which consists of a review or expansion of material covered in the presentation in addition to lessons having a transit motif in the areas of art, language, math, social studies, and field trips. A color sound filmstrip, GETTING AROUND: TRANSIT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE is also included in the package.
