ROAD NETWORK SIZE RELATED TO CITY SIZE: EMPIRICAL FINDINGS
Relations are established between city size and numbers of network elements, i.e. intersections, street sections and regions (building blocks). City population and road network length are taken as city size variables. A complete survey in six dutch towns has been carried out in order to obtain figures on the numbers of intersections by degree, street sections and regions. It was found that both city population and road network length have strong linear relationships with the three network variables. For predictive purposes relationships with city population appeared to be preferable. A comparison with the few other investigations into this subject was made, showing good agreement. /TRRL/
