WEATHER MONITORING EQUIPMENT AND ITS PRACTICAL USE IN THE MANAGEMENT OF HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE. THIRD INTERNATIONAL ROAD WEATHER CONFERENCE, TAMPERE, FINLAND, 24H FEBRUARY 1986
This paper discusses how the new technology in monitoring the weather conditions has been integrated into working practices in devon county, British isles. The authors describe the history of implementation, the equipment and its environment, procedural considerations, the benefits of an integrated system, the future and limitations. According to the authors it is certain that the advent of equipment for monitoring weather conditions has constantly saved money by not overreacting. It has also increased awareness of potentially dangerous situations which has allowed the county to salt preventively, saving accidents or even lives. (TRRL)
