SPATIAL ABSTRACTION IN TRANSPORTATION PLANNING A PROBLEM ANALYSIS AND SET-UP FOR INITIAL RESEARCH
RUIMTELLIJKE ABSTRAKTIE IN DE VERVOERSPLANNING EEN PROBLEEMANALYSE EN OPZET VOOR INITIEEL ONDERZOEK
A description of a research project on spatial abstraction in transportation planning is given. It deals with the planning activity of designing models of the spatial dimension of a planning situation, and with the assessment of the consequences of usage of these model representations in the transportation planning process. First, an outline is given of the theoretical framework chosen for this research problem. Problem analysis is followed by aa detailed representation of problem statements to be tackled. The remainder of the paper is concerned with the research approach. After discussion of various ways of tackling the problem, an experimental approach (computer simulations) is proposed to be carried out as a case study of a real city. The selected experimental design is outlined and compared with designs used by other researchers. /TRRL/
