CURRENT UNDERSTANDING OF THE TECHNICAL POSSIBILITIES FOR REDUCING POLLUTANT EMISSIONS FROM MOTOR CARS

Estimates of the pollutant emission performance of the current motorcar fleet and the emission potential of various technology systems for future vehicles are given. The estimates are placed in the context of current understanding concerning the relationship of emission reductions to the effect on the exposure of given targets. The most recent national data for air quality for the U.S., Japan and Europe is summarized as an indication of the effect of regulation on emissions.
