CRACKING AND SEATING PCC PAVEMENT PRIOR TO RESURFACING TO RETARD REFLECTIVE CRACKING -- FREMONT COUNTY

The concept of cracking and seating a portland cement concrete (pcc) pavement prior to laying an asphalt cement concrete (acc) surface in order to retard reflection cracking has been around since the 1950's. With the advent of improved cracking equipment, this method has gained renewed interest. Research project HR-279, "Cracking and Seal ing PCC Pavement Prior to Resurfacing to Retard Reflection Cracking" has been undertaken to determine the effects of various sized cracking patterns on reflective cracking and pavement structural rating. This report discusses the various cracking patterns and construction techniques used on the project.
