1,600 T/H BUCKET-WHEEL TYPE UNLOADER
The machine introduced herein is a bucket-wheel type unloader of unique function, recently developed by IHI. Two of the machines have already been operating at Port Island, a reclaimed island in Kobe Harbour, since November 1969. The machine employs special earthcarrying barges, whose bottom is of semi-circular cross section convenient for scooping up of loaded earth with a bucket-wheel. Earth on the berthed barge is scooped up continuously by the revolving bucket-wheel. The bucket-wheel, which is slung from the unloader, is permitted, by the unloader's travel, to its scooping position along the barge-length in order to scoop up adjacent heaps of earth. Thus unloading of the barge is greatly facilitated by the combination of bucket-wheel revolution and unloader travel. The bucket-wheel rests on the barge's lateral rails in order to maintain full contact with the loaded earth as far as the barge's bottom even during up and down movement due to the unloading process or the tide. Thrust-force against the barge, caused by bucket-wheel revolution and the unloader's travel, are also taken into account.
