DELAYED FRACTURE IN VISCOELASTIC-PLASTIC SOLIDS
The paper deals with the time at which a penny-shaped crack surrounded by a wedge shaped ring of crazed material begins to propagate. The bulk material is considered viscoelastic and the crazed material in the wedge is modelled by the visco-plasticity model of M.G. Crochet. It is found that time-dependent plasticity in the wedge shortens the time to failure in comparison with time-independent plasticity.
