AUTOMATIC ELECTRODE GUIDANCE SYSTEM FOR BUTT JOINTS
A system is described for guiding the electrode automatically along the joint with an accuracy of plus or minus 0.1mm. It will operate continuously over long periods, and it is suitable for the welding of high-tensile steels. Joint gap control is maintained during welding by an electromechanical servo-system operated by pushbuttons on the control panel. The servo-system operates by rotating the strip and the setting bridge in a horizontal plane relative to the longitudinal axis of the welded tube.
