MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEM FOR RURAL TRANSIT SERVICES

Phase I of the study evaluates nine representative computerized management information systems in rural and small urban areas to compare and contrast their respective capabilities, ease of use, and cost. No comprehensive automated MIS was available at a cost which was affordable to small-scale, fixed-route operations with fleet sizes of less than 30 vehicles. Several alternative software/hardware packages were then formulated with a total estimate cost of $10,000-$11,000. Phase II implements and tests one of the hardware/software packages.
