EFFECTS OF CAMPAIGNS, DEBATES AND MOULDING OF PUBLIC OPINION? CHANGES IN THE PARENTAL CARE FOR THE TRAFFIC SAFETY OF CHILDREN. RESULTS FROM TWO NATION-WIDE STUDIES ABOUT CHILDREN AGED 4 TO 12 YEARS
EFFEKTER AV KAMPANJER, DEBATT OCH OPINIONSBILDNING? FOERAENDRINGAR I FOERAELDRARNAS OMSORG OM BARNENS TRAFIKSAEKERHET. RESULTAT FRAAN TVAA RIKSTAECKANDE UNDERSOEKNINGAR OM BARN I AALDRARNA 4-12
As a consequence of campaigns parents have increased the care for the safety of their children by procuring safety devices and persuading their children to use these. The usage rate of seat belts, used solely or combined with booster cushions, has increased considerably. Some of the pre-school children use protective helmets when cycling. No increase in the training of children has been noted. The age for the possession of a bicycle has been lowered and the older children's freedom of movement on foot is unaltered. United actions of parents and other groups in the local traffic safety work do not seem to have increased to any appreciable extent. One has become slightly less favourable to measures limiting the trafficability of motor traffic in built-up areas, but most parents are still in favour of such measures. Most parents accept motorization in built-up areas. The two studies were carried out at an interval of two years. Postal questionnaires were sent to 6700 children whose parents answered the questions. (TRRL)
