STUDY OF A CAPACITIVE CELL APPARATUS FOR THE NON-DESTRUCTIVE MEASUREMENT OF THE SOIL MOISTURE CONTENT
ETUDE D'UNE CELLULE CAPACITIVE DE MESURE DES TENEURS EN EAU DANS LES SOLS PAR UNE METHODE NON DESTRUCTIVE
The author describes a special study of a non-destructive nuclear capacitive method of measuring the moisture content of soils, which is based on the dielectic properties of wet materials. Details are given of a capacitive cell which is designed to remain in the soil permanently and is connected to a measuring apparatus by means of a cable. The principle of the measurement consists in measuring variations in the resonance frequency of a transistorized high-frequency oscillator as a function of the changes in capacity between two electrodes buried in the ground when the moisture content varies. A theoretical study is presented of the high-frequency oscillator designed. Details are also given of the measuring capacitive cell and of laboratory and in-situ results. Possible applications of the apparatus are mentioned. /TRRL/
