THE USE OF MICRO COMPUTERS IN THE ANALYSIS OF PILES SUBJECTED TO LATERAL LOADS AND BENDING MOVEMENTS
Since the introduction of the concept of modulus of subgrade reaction and its application to the analysis of slab-on-grades and piles subjected to lateral loads, criticisms have been levelled against the method on the ground that the soil behaviour is non-linear. In this paper, a numerical approach is outlined which breaks down to a linear form the equation governing the mode of deformation of the system and hence renders it suitable for handling by a personal computer. An example of a vertical pile in a three layer soil system is provided having used a micro computer of no more than 48k capacity. (TRRL)
