JOINT SEALING COMPOUNDS AND ASPHALT REPAIR TRAIN ARE TESTED

VOEGVULLINGSPRODUKTEN EN ASFALTREPARATIETREIN BEPROEFD

Due to restricted public funds the tendency in road construction in the Netherlands has been to repair the pavement several times before turning to more radical measures. Government and contractor have been forced to take a more rational approach to road maintenance. The contractor cooperates with these new developments by adapting the material, equipment and technique. Open cracks and joints used to be filled with bitumen. The sealing technique and the quality of the sealing compound has not been further developed for years. However these methods don't meet the requirements for rational pavement maintenance. The Dutch contractor nbm has carried out research on the possibilities of new material and equipment for repairing cracks. This research led to the development of an asphalt repair train. The authors describe the new equipment, the procedure and the results. (TRRL)
