MEASURING BITUMEN CONTENT USING TROXLER ASPHALT CONTENT GAUGE 3241

MAALING AF BINDEMIDDELINDHOLD MED TROXLER ASPHALT CONTENT GAUGE 3241

This study is an experimental comparison of the Troxler Asphalt Content Gauge 3241 method for bitumen content of asphaltic mixes and the centrifuge extraction method, which is the Danish standard method. Various conditions are found to be necessary for the troxler method. Calibration mixes must be prepared. These must contain the same bitumen and the same aggregate quality and grading as the test material. Also, the calibration and test mixes must have the same size, compaction and temperature. Under these conditions, the troxler gauge appears to give a convenient, fast way to reliable results when checking the bitumen content. (TRRL)
