The 1987 International Public Works Congress and Equipment Show held recently in Chicago featured a wide range of presentations on current public work activities and problems from both technical and managerial viewpoints. This article briefly describes some of the highlights of the show. Of the construction and rehabilitation equipment, an interesting machine was the BW 214 D wheel-drive compactor with an operating weight of 12,020 lbs., a rolling width of 82.7 in., and a hydrostatic speed of 0-6.2 mph. Milling machines, crawler tractors, and slurry paving machines are descsribed. Several machines offered for rent by Hertz Equipment Rental are noted. Girder suspension systems, spiral rib pipe, pipe linings, silicone sealants, and thixotropic epoxy adhesive sealants, and dust retardants are noted. Tables are provided of information relating to products in the area of loaders, traffic and workzone safety equipment, winter maintenance, and geotextiles and reinforcement.
