REFUSE INCINERATION SLAGS AS UNBOUND STONE ROADBASE MATERIAL

AVI-SLAKKEN ALS ONGEBONDEN FUNDERINGSMATERIAAL

In 1983 an experimental road was constructed in the Netherlands with refuse incineration slags as unbound stone roadbase material. The purpose was to increase the knowledge and understanding of the technological and environmental possibilities and limitations. The Netherlands has six plants for combustion of domestic refuse. Slags are the most important residual materials. For the application as stone sub-base material separate removal of the fly ash and after-treatment of the slag are necessary. Attention must be paid to the pollution of the soil and to ground and surface water. (TRRL)
