GEOMATRIX HELPS SOLVE SOIL EROSION
An effective erosion control method is described that has been used in New Mexico, and can be adapted for highway department use - for ditches or other areas where constant runoff causes erosion problems. The project in Elephant Butte Irrigation District includes a total of 327 miles of canals and laterals, and 200 miles of drains. The erosion control material used is a 3-dimensional, semi-rigid geomatrix made of non-woven, polyester fabric. It is permeable, lightweight and rot-proof, and provides virtually permanent erosion control. The installation of the material is briefly described.
