THE SECRETS OF POSITIVE POLITICAL INVOLVEMENT
This article notes that highway engineers must work daily with elected officials, and describes ways of getting involved politically without playing politics and without compromising principles. The article offers rules for engineers: avoid being put into a compromising position; do not be partisan; know your politicians; if you can procrastinate until both sides of the issue have been investigated, the issue can be resolved; avoid high visibility which can make a better target; patience and perseverance are very important in lobbying; and offer alternatives.
