NEW NEMA TRAFFIC CONTROLLER CONCEPT
This is the report on the open forum at the Annual Meeting of the National Electrical Manufacturers Association to preview the concepts and specifics thus far considered by the industry in a proposal for a new generation of traffic controllers. The guidelines that were proposed are listed. The new NEMA traffic controller assembly would use an intra-cabinet concept employing time division and multiplex data transfer techniques. The three communication ports in the NEMA approach are also presented. It is noted that during the development of the new requirements careful consideration will be given to the following: expansion of auxiliary functions; ease of installation and service; diagnostic aids to minimize training; improved performance and reliability; interchangeability of new equipment; and new connectors.
