OPINION POLLS. ROAD SAFETY POSTERS OVER THE PAST DECADE
LES AFFICHES DE SECURITE ROUTIERE DE CES DIX DERNIERES ANNEES
From 1973 to August 1974, the Higher Council for Road Safety launched 49 campaigns on 25 different themes illustrated by 68 posters. During each campaign, one or several posters were placed along motorways (approximately 200 notice boards) and main roads (approximately 400 notice boards). Reproductions of all the posters used are appended at the end of the report. The aim of the opinion poll carried out in September 1984 was: 1) to identify the posters which attracted most attention over the ten years; 2) to obtain the opinion of road users on these emotional "shock" posters; 3) to discover the type of poster which is most likely to modify the behaviour of drivers; 4) to establish a link between the message on the poster and the location of the boards; 5) to collect criticisms and comments. The results are presented and discussed. (TRRL)
