THE NEW TRAFFIC LEGISLATION
New regulations which came into effect on 1st may 1974 are: all cars must carry one warning triangle; the 5-minute parking concession is abolished in no-parking areas; maximum speed for buses is 90 kph; loads projecting sideways must be marked by light and reflector; trailers must be marked by light and reflector; snow scooters must be registered; cycles must carry lamps even in daytime; there are new rules for turns by cycles, two kinds of turn being specified depending on junction layout and traffic conditions. Regulations which were introduced during 1973 include: zig-zagging between lanes as a means of overtaking is not allowed; slow-moving vehicles must leave a space to allow overtaking vehicles to get back into lane; restrictions on heavy lorries in the two left-hand lanes on motorways; rules regarding overtaking; prohibition on overtaking near pedestrian crossings; buses have precedence when pulling out from stops; pedestrian crossing road into which vehicle is turning has priority; double parking prohibited; no stopping and parking on left-hand side, along continuous lines, in slow lane or at bus stop; rules on reporting accidents; prohibition on extra lights when headlamps are dipped; loads projecting behind vehicle must be marked. /TRRL/
