THREE-PHASE DRIVES FOR NORTH AMERICAN RAPID TRANSIT CARS
In North America rapid transit cars run without exception with D.C. commutator traction motors. To introduce another technology presumes that it results in a further reduction of operating costs. With this the new three-phase drives have a chance, if it succeeds to adapt the three-phase drive technology developed for series production to the North American conditions and to introduce them there. At present two prototype cars are being constructed for rapid transit systems in Canada, which shall have to perform contributions to costs reductions at energy consumption and maintenance.
