IOWA FAST TRACK CONCRETE PAVING
An innovative method of highway construction and surfacing is described which provides a surface which is trafficable in less than 12 hours. This new technique consists of (1) removing unsound concrete; (2) cleaning the entire surface; (3) brushing a cement bonding mixture, made of cement and sand, on the clean surface; and (4) placing a 2-inch layer of new concrete on the existing concrete. The development of this fast track concrete paving is described, as well as laboratory testing, and the demonstration project procedure. Details are summarized of the paving equipment and methods used.
