EDUCATION AND TRAINING OF HIGHWAY ENGINEERS IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES WITH SPECIAL REFERENCE TO INDIA
This paper deals with the transport problems encountered in developiing countries during the last decade. With the increasing scope of the human activities in various sectors in these countries, the transport problems are assuming large proportions resulting in corresponding changes in the nature of the work and responsibilities of highway engineers. A highway engineer has not only to have adequate knowledge of engineering techniques, but he has also to be coversant with techniques of management, communication and social sciences. The paper also highlights the implications of this trend on the education and training of highway engineers and gives an account of the experience gained in India.
