PROJECT STUDY CONCERNING THE CONNECTION OF THE RAIL PASSENGER TRAFFIC OF A TRAMWAY UTILITY AND THE GERMAN FEDERAL RAILWAY AS ILLUSTRATED BY THE CASE OF THE KARLSRUHE AREA

The Karlsruhe area is distinguished by its provision of through connections from the suburbs into the city center. A drive design for vehicles which can be utilized within the 750 v dc network and within the 15 kv ac network and on nonelectrified sections of regional lines is examined. After an examination of five drive variants it was decided to test the variants dc/ac feed and dc/battery feed. Because of the favorable conditions it is possible to realize the network for an operation similar to an urban railway with low costs. (Edited author abstract)
