MULTI-YEAR PLAN FOR PAVEMENT MAINTENANCE; AN EXPERIMENT

MEERJARENPLANNING VAN ONDERHOUD AAN WEGVERHARDINGEN; EEN EXPERIMENT

In the Rijkswaterstaat activities concerned with road management and maintenance are assigned to a project bureau of the Road Engineering Division. One of the activities is the development of a multi-year plan for pavement maintenance. The author describes the system and the experiment which is taking place. The system is designed for intensively used main roads having a flexible pavement. In 1984 the planning method was introduced in three Rijkswaterstaat provincial directorates. For the future users of the system two-day courses were held. Two publications, "A Guide for the Planning of Road Pavement Maintenance and Periodical Visual Inspection" and "User's Manual for the Planning of Pavement Maintenance", accompanied the course.
