PAGAN'S PERSPECTIVE. SOUND, AND OTHER, HIGHWAY BARRIERS. PART II
This article which reviews concrete and steel sound barriers, presents information from a booklet and a report dealing with same. Republic Steel Corporation's booklet, "Sound Barriers" has good photographs showing engineering aspects of its product. Its barrier wall was tested in accordance with A.S.T.M. procedures and the A-weighted transmission loss value using a typical truck spectrum was 23 decibels. Brief specifications are also provided for this type of metal barrier. The Illinois Department of Transpoprtation's internal report, "Noisewall Effectiveness Citizen's Survey" is briefly reviewed. Observations are made on I.D.O.T.'s concrete panel noise wall, and the comments of residents.
