UNEQUAL DISTRIBUTION OF TWIN AXLE LOAD
ONGELIJKMATIGE VERDELING VAN TANDEMASBELASTING
The authors noted inadmissable differences between the Dutch legislation on the maximum allowable (twin) axle load and observed exceeding of the regulations. Information about the excess axle loads was obtained by measurements on weighbridges. The author also examined the effects of unequal distribution of axle load, and the mutual influence on damage to the pavement (with reference to the AASHTO road test). Increase of the allowable maximum twin axle load, with a distance between the single axles larger than or equal to 1.20 metres and smaller than two metres, is recommended, and also a decrease of the twin axle load with a distance between the single axles larger than or equal to two metres.
