THICKNESS DESIGN FOR CONCRETE HIGHWAY AND STREET PAVEMENTS
The publication deals with methods of determining slab thicknesses adequate to carry traffic loads on concrete pavement structures. The thickness design criteria suggested are based on general pavement performance experience although the design criteria may be modified based on specific regional or local experience. Design procedures, which apply to plain, plain doweled, reinforced and continuously reinforced concrete pavements, are detailed in the following chapters: 1 -introduction; 2 -design factors; 3 -design procedure (axle-load data available); 4 -simplified design procedure (axle-load data not available); appendix a -development of design procedure; appendix b -design of concrete pavements with lean concrete lower course; appendix c -analysis of tridem axle loads; appendix d -estimating traffic volume by capacity.
