GREATER VOICE FOR EUROPEAN COMMUTERS. CONCLUSIONS FROM A CROSS-NATIONAL STUDY OF INFLUENCE AND PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
The paper discusses the results of research conducted for the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions into the influence which commuters and their representative parties had in transport decision-making in the European Community member states. Twenty case studies were undertaken in five EC member states; Denmark, France, Ireland, Italy and the United Kingdom. The transport changes covered a cross-section of participation exercises from regional land-use/transport plan to smaller, workplace based initiatives; they included travel by different modes, different groups of workers and different planning backgrounds.
