"JAM YESTERDAY, JAM TODAY AND JAM TOMORROW?" (OR HOW TO IMPROVE TRAFFIC SPEEDS IN CENTRAL LONDON). LUNCH HOUR LECTURE HELD AT UNIVERSITY COLLEGE LONDON, OCTOBER 17, 1985
Traffic speeds in central London have remained approximately constant at 12 mph for many decades. It is argued that this is because they are in equilibrium with the door-to-door speeds delivered by the public transport systems, and that only by speeding up bus and rail will it be possible to speed up cars and lorries.
