TRAVEL DEMAND MODEL BASED ON STATE VARIABLES OF GROUPS OF PERSONS HAVING AN EQUAL SOCIOECONOMIC STRUCTURE
A model to describe long distance travel activities, using a trip-type variable was derived. This variable is a combination of travel mode and distance. The individuals are allocated to groups of equal household structure and travel accessibility constraints. Each group has distinct distributions of trip types. The distributions can be interpreted as variables of state of the groups. For such groups an entropy close to a theoretical maximum can be calculated. This can be interpreted as a condition of equilibrium and therefore the observed state of the groups can be expected to be stable if the constraints do not change.
