FILL SLOPE EROSION CONTROL I 70--STRAIGHT CREEK CORRIDOR PROJECT I 70-3(99). FINAL REPORT

This report documents the performance to date of the various features installed in test sections to control sedimentation of Straight Creek from erosion associated primarily with the fill slopes of I 70 along this seven mile corridor. The test sections were constructed in the fall of 1979 on south facing 1 1/2 to 1 fill slopes at an elevation of 10,000 to 10,500 feet above sea level. Recommendations are also presented for features to be installed on the first construction projects for erosion and sedimentation control in this corridor. Features installed to control runoff from the roadway include wide paved shoulders with either a six inch asphalt curb or type 4 barrier, a valley gutter, and timber erosion checks. These features were used in conjunction with drainage pipes extended down the slopes to sediment collection facilities. Surface treatments to promote revegetation of the fill slopes included jute mat, paper mulch net, and soil binder in conjunction with top soil, seed, fertilizer, and hay mulch. Additionally, standard sections with and without top soil were evaluated.
