PAVEMENT CONDITION MEASUREMENT FOR SAFETY IMPROVEMENTS. VOLUME II. CODING FORMS, MANUALS, AND FIELD STUDIES. FINAL REPORT

Research efforts are described which allowed the development of three levels of procedures to accurately assess and document safety related pavement conditions at high hazard locations and to demonstrate the use of these procedures along with the accuracy of data collected. These procedures are applicable for use on short segments of highways. Level 3 procedures were developed to enhance the reporting of a typical police accident report. Level 2 procedures are recommended for use to document an accident scene by professional accident investigators. Level 1 procedures can be used by highway department personnel or investigators to completely document a particular highway location. Options have been developed for use of these so they are responsive to particular site characteristics and to the intended use of the data. This volume contains data collection forms, coding manuals, and field guides for three levels of pavement condition data collection.
