PHYSICAL DESIGN GUIDELINES FOR RESIDENTIAL STREET MANAGEMENT. FIRST EDITION

The physical design guidelines serve to demonstrate the application of the various devices in an overall residential street management scheme. The guidelines form part of a comprehensive residential street management manual and should be considered in that context. The solution of site specific problems requires the application of engineering expertise and judgement to develop the principles contained in the guidelines. The design guidelines for each of the devices have been prepared with the following standard format: objectives; application of device; limitations of device; advantages; disadvantages; design requirements; design constraints; ancillary treatment; references; and typical layout. The guidelines have been prepared on the basis of the devices being constructed in the final form using permanent materials. The proper planning and evaluation of residential street management schemes will enable the installation of the individual devices with reasonable confidence and the possibility of having to remove the permanent construction should be minimal.
